THE INSPIRING ARTIST AWARD

EMILY MORTIMER/ Star of HBO’s “The Newsroom”

Every day at Reel Works, teens and professionals work together to teach, learn, create and inspire each other.   Over the past year, few have been as generous with their time and support of our students as Emily Mortimer.  Whether watching works in progress and giving feedback, reading scripts or sharing with students how she has created roles for Martin Scorsese or Woody Allen – Emily has inspired Reel Works teens to trust their visions and shoot from the heart.

A talented and charming actress, Emily Mortimer continues to challenge herself with a variety of roles that have audiences fully captivated by her onscreen presence.  Her most recent role is starring opposite Jeff Daniels in Academy Award® and Emmy® winning writer, Aaron Sorkin’s new drama, The Newsroom.  Produced by Scott Rudin and HBO.

Emily has worked with some of the most legendary film directors of our era including Martin Scorsese in Hugo and Shutter Island and Woody Allen in Match Point.   Her break-out performance was in Nicole Holofcener’s critically-acclaimed, Lovely & Amazing, opposite Catherine Keener.

Mortimer was born in London, England – the daughter of famed writer Sir John Mortimer.  We’re proud to call her a neighbor and fellow Brooklynite, where she currently lives with her husband, actor Alessandro Nivola and their two children.

For her commitment to community, to giving young people a voice and for her remarkable career full of courageous choices and unforgettable performances, Reel Works is thrilled to honor Emily Mortimer with the 2012 Inspiring Artist Award.
